Why Samoa Joe Was Not Happy With AEW World Title Reign

Samoa Joe AEW World Champion

What did Samoa Joe say about his AEW World Championship reign?

Joe’s AEW World Championship reign started on December 30, 2023, when he defeated MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) at the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view held at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. His reign lasted 113 days until April 21, 2024, when he lost the title to Swerve Strickland at AEW Dynasty in St. Louis, Missouri.

During his reign, Samoa Joe successfully defended the AEW World Championship against several top contenders in AEW, including Hook, Wardlow, and a notable three-way match win over Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland at Revolution in March 2024.

Joe considers his reign as something that “was not what we would hope it would be,” but he expressed optimism that it “can be amended” in the future during his interview with STL Sports Central.

“Oh, you’d be absolutely correct. Any time that you are not the possessor of the AEW World Championship, you should be taking it personally.

“So yes, 100% correct, it was not what we would hope it would be, but like all things in the future, this too can be amended.”
