Sami Zayn Praised For US Title Match Quality On WWE SmackDown
Sami Zayn is getting recognition for delivering great matches on WWE SmackDown with the US Title on the line.
Ever since Sami Zayn won the US Title from Solo Sikoa on the August 29th edition of WWE SmackDown, he has been putting the gold on the line against anybody who wants a shot.
John Cena used to do the US Title Open Challenge when he was champion about a decade ago, so Zayn asked Cena if he could carry on that tradition, and Cena allowed it. The two men even had a US Title match, which was ruined when Brock Lesnar showed up to attack.
As the US Champion, Zayn has faced several different opponents like Rey Fenix and Carmelo Hayes, both of whom are rising stars that could hold singles titles in the future.
This past Friday on SmackDown in Cincinnati, Sami Zayn beat Aleister Black in another great match, thanks in part to a distraction from Damian Priest, who is Black’s rival.
On a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer’s Bryan & Vinny Show, Bryan Alvarez spoke about how Zayn is determined to have the best match on any show that he is on.
“The first half of this match, they’re into it, alright, but by the second half of this match, this place is going nuts.”
Former WWE Star Lance Storm Also Recognizes Sami Zayn’s Greatness
Alvarez went on to discuss the early days of Zayn’s career, dating back two decades, when he was putting on incredible matches as the masked El Generico.
“This goes all the way back to when I went to BOLA in 2006 and my buddy, JAB, told me, ‘Wait till you see this guy, Generico, he has the best match on every show he’s on.’
And in pretty much all the way through his NXT run, I think every single solitary show I ever saw that Sami Zayn or Generico was on, it was the best match on the show. And dude, it’s 2025 and he has the best match on every show.”
Lance Storm is a former WWE superstar who was on the show and also spoke about the kind of wrestler that Zayn is.
“Sami is an outstanding wrestler in the old traditional sense of he doesn’t just make himself look outstanding, he makes everyone else he’s in there look outstanding as well.”
As for when Sami Zayn may lose the US Title in an open challenge, fans will have to keep tuning into SmackDown to see when, or if, it happens.
