Sami Zayn Chooses Surprising WWE Match As One Of His Favourites
Sami Zayn is very fond of a big match he had that may not be remembered as a technical classic, but it meant a lot to him.
Over the past decade, Sami Zayn has given WWE fans a lot of great memories and moments. Whether in the ring in a match or doing a backstage segment, Zayn has shown he is one of the most versatile performers in WWE.
As a WWE superstar, Zayn has won a lot of titles including the NXT Title, Intercontinental Title, and of course the WWE Tag Team Titles that he won with Kevin Owens in the main event of WrestleMania 39 Saturday in Los Angeles.
A year earlier at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, Sami Zayn lost a chaotic “Anything Goes Match” to actor Johnny Knoxville that included a lot of silly moments. However, that silliness and uniqueness also made it a memorable match that Zayn is still very fond of.
During an appearance on The Five Star Podcast, Zayn explained why he liked that match with Knoxville so much.
“I’ve had a lot of really great matches that I’m really proud of. The Knoxville one jumps out at me because for so many reasons, I think. For starters expectations were low. Any time you can take people on that kind of ride when they’re not really expecting to be taken on that kind of ride. To me that’s all wrestling really is.
It’s like a ride. An emotional ride, a ride of different reactions. It’s going left and it turns right and it’s up and it’s down and the next thing you know you’re just caught up in it. It’s a great feeling to be caught up in it.”
Sami Zayn Credits Johnny Knoxville For Performance At WrestleMania
That match between Zayn and Knoxville often sees people credit Zayn because he’s a pro wrestler with two decades of experience. However, Zayn also thinks that Knoxville should be praised for it too.
“I think that’s the remarkable thing that we were able to do in that match is get people completely caught up in what we were doing. Particularly proud of it because Johnny Knoxville is not a wrestler.
He went out there and to his credit, as much as I don’t like to give him credit for anything, he went out there at age 50 and put 20 minutes in at WrestleMania and had people on their feet. There’s [not a lot of] people on Earth that can do that. He was part of that. So very proud of that match.”
At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Sami Zayn lost a competitive match to Drew McIntyre, but the rivalry will continue since they got into a backstage brawl on Monday Night Raw as well.
