Sami Zayn Explains Importance Of WrestleMania 40 Match

One year after winning a coveted championship at WrestleMania, Sami Zayn is looking forward to the chance to do it again.

Sami Zayn earned his shot at GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Championship after winning a terrific Gauntlet Match on the March 11th episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.

It was a Gauntlet Match that saw Zayn pick up wins over Bronson Reed, Shinsuke Nakamura and Chad Gable back to back to back. The reward for winning that match was a shot against the longest-reigning, 600+ day Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER, who has appeared to be unbeatable over the last two years.

Before a contract signing on the March 18th Raw, Gable spoke to Zayn backstage saying that Zayn can’t beat GUNTHER.

During the contract signing, Zayn said that last year he ended The Usos longest reign ever as Tag Team Champions in the WrestleMania 39 Saturday main event, and at this year’s WrestleMania, Zayn will end the longest Intercontinental Title reign of all time. Zayn told Gunther that he was looking into the eyes of the man who would take Gunther down at WrestleMania.

How Does Sami Zayn Really Feel About Facing GUNTHER At WrestleMania 40?

Sami Zayn spoke to Sportskeeda about his huge Intercontinental Title match at WrestleMania 40 and how grateful he is for the opportunity to win the Intercontinental Title again, which Zayn has held three times in his career.

“I think it’s pretty big for sure. Coming off of last year where I found myself in a really just… you know, let’s call it right place, right time. But I caught a lot of steam and a lot of momentum heading into WrestleMania over the six months or so leading into it and ended up in the main event.”

“Anytime you do something big, you know, I think in anything, I think in any field, not just as a wrestler or an artist or whatever, but when you’re able to accomplish something, there’s always sort of like, oh, now what, on the other side of it, you know? It’s hard to sometimes keep that up or wonder what’s next, what could you do to top it or anything like that.

And if you watch WWE, you see how fast things move and I’m just, I feel very lucky to be in a pretty good position a year later challenging uh you know, the longest reigning, most dominant Intercontinental Champion of all time and if you’re not in that top, top match with, let’s say, Cody at Roman or The Rock or whatever now, I’d say this is the biggest match outside of that that you could possibly want to be in. So I’m pretty grateful to find myself in that spot, and I’m excited about it.”

It has yet to be announced by WWE when the GUNTHER-Zayn match will take place on the two-night WrestleMania 40 event that takes place on April 6th & April 7th at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.
