Sami Zayn & Chad Gable War Over WWE Intercontinental Title

Sami Zayn Chad Gable WWE

Sami Zayn and Chad Gable have been embroiled in a war over the WWE Intercontinental Title and the rivalry may be over.

Sami Zayn ended the historic Intercontinental Title reign of Gunther at WrestleMania 40 in one of the biggest wins of his career. But as champion, there is never too long to celebrate in WWE and on Raw in Montreal, Zayn had his first defence of the gold against Chad Gable.

Chad Gable was the man who lost to Zayn which allowed Zayn to challenge Gunther at WrestleMania. Gable then took it upon himself to help train Zayn for that match to ensure a new Intercontinental Champion was crowned but he did remind Zayn at WrestleMania that he wanted a favour in return. And that favour was a title match.

Sami Zayn retained his title in his hometown and Gable raised Sami Zayn’s hand after the match but as the champion hugged his wife at ringside, Gable snatched him with a vicious German suplex as he turned on the star. Chad Gable followed that up with a sickening ankle lock through the ropes as the crowd showered him boos.

Since then Chad Gable has shown a new side of his personality as he has berated his Alpha Academy followers Otis, Maxxine Dupri, and Akira Tozawa week after week, telling them their only goal was to help him become WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Sami Zayn Retains Intercontinental Title At WWE Clash At The Castle

It was an emotional match at WWE Clash at the Castle as Sami Zayn defended the Intercontinental Title against Chad Gable, who had Otis and Maxxine Dupri with him. Gable was in an angry mood when Dupri refused to help him cheat, but it almost led to a win after Gable hit the Chaos Theory suplex.

As the match progressed, Gable wanted Otis to help him, but the big man refused. After Zayn countered an Ankle Lock that led to Gable hitting Dupri’s injured left leg, Otis again refused to help Gable. Otis picked up Dupri and walked toward the back, which distracted Gable. This allowed Zayn to hit a Helluva Kick on Gable for the win.

Sami Zayn celebrated with the Intercontinental Title. Cole summarized it by saying that Chad Gable didn’t get the job done in the big match again. Zayn signaled to Gable “that’s it” as if to say that this is done.
