Roxanne Perez Recalls What She Was Told When Hired By WWE
Roxanne Perez has recalled what WWE told her after she showed an interest in working for the company that she grew up watching as a fan.
Prior to signing with WWE in March 2022, Roxanne Perez was known as Rok-C in the independent wrestling scene. As Rok-C, she became the inaugural Ring of Honor Women’s Champion at a time when she was just 19 years old.
At 21 years old, Roxanne Perez has only been part of WWE for one year after making her NXT debut in April 2022. Six months later at the age of 21 on the December 13th edition of NXT, she ended Mandy Rose’s 413-day reign as the NXT Women’s Champion.
In an interview with Fightful, Roxanne Perez spoke about how WWE contacted her and wanted to sign her.
“That felt so cool to me. As a kid, my dream was going to WWE and I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m gonna get there, but I’m gonna do it.’ Then I find out about the indies and I found out how you can just work your way up throughout the indies and one day maybe they’ll call me. That’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to make a big enough name for myself to where I don’t have to beg. They will contact me and be like, ‘Hey, we want you because your work spoke for yourself.’”
“When I got there, it was crazy to do my tryout and people were like, ‘Yeah, we know you.’ I would never have expected to come into a WWE tryout and people be like, ‘Yeah, you’re good.’”
As she continued, Roxanne talked about how she prepared for her tryout by getting some help from her pro wrestler boyfriend Gino Medina and she was ready for the tryout after that.
“I definitely did my homework, especially training at Booker T’s school. He prepared me. My boyfriend, Gino Medina, he’s awesome and he prepared me for that tryout. I was ready. He had me doing some crazy cardio. He’s done a tryout before, so he’s like, ‘Yeah, this is what they do,’ and it was way less than what he had me do. But I was over prepared. So that was good.”
In terms of what’s next for Roxanne Perez, she will be part of the NXT Spring Breakin’ episode of NXT TV this coming Tuesday, April 25th when she challenges Indi Hartwell for the NXT Title in a match that will also involve Tiffany Stratton as well.
