Ronda Rousey Blasts WrestleMania Booking As “Overcompensating For Having Vaginas”

Ronda Rousey did not like WWE’s decision-makers changing the original plans for a WrestleMania main event match.

After Ronda Rousey signed with WWE in early 2018, she became one of the top female stars in the company thanks to her success as a UFC Hall of Famer and her ability to grasp pro wrestling.

At SummerSlam 2018, Ronda Rousey became the Raw Women’s Champion just four months after having her first match at that year’s WrestleMania. Along the way, WWE decided to turn Rousey into a heel towards the end of that year.

Becky Lynch won the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble so it appeared as though WWE would go with the Rousey-Lynch match at WrestleMania 35 that a lot of fans were clamoring to see. However, plans changed when former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon inserted Charlotte Flair into the match to make it a three-way and eventually Flair won the Smackdown Women’s Title as well to create a Winner Take All triple threat match.

Ronda Rousey Enjoyed Being A Heel Champion

The former WWE Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey has a new book coming out soon called Our Fight, which goes on sale on April 4th. In the book, Rousey shared some very interesting stories about her two runs in WWE. While writing about the WrestleMania 35 match, Rousey stated that the only thing she liked about it was being a heel.

“Yes, Charlotte and I had bad blood ever since she slid in to replace Becky at Survivor Series. Yes, WWE had beyond belabored Becky vs. Charlotte as rivals. But we’d been given two lines and were told to make a triangle. They wedged Charlotte, the SmackDown champion, into the narrative.”

“As I already held the Raw title, the powers that be (i.e., the sycophants who do Vince’s bidding) dictated that to raise the stakes and overcompensate for us having vaginas, the winner of our match at WrestleMania would lay claim to not just one, but both titles. The concept felt hastily put together at best. The only good part was that now I had turned heel, I didn’t have to pretend that I didn’t think everything was bulls**t.

That WrestleMania 35 main event saw Lynch pin Rousey to get the win to become “Becky Two Belts.” It was a controversial finish since Rousey’s shoulders were not down for the full three count. Rousey was gone the next day, so it was never addressed in storyline.
