Ronda Rousey Didn’t Leave WWE To Join AEW

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is expected to step away from wrestling.

On November 17th, Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at the Ring of Honor tapings, teaming with Marina Shafir to take on Athena and Billie Starkz In recent weeks Rousey has got back in the ring, despite previously hinting that she was retired.

However, Rousey’s return to the squared circle won’t be a long one. After Tony Khan stated that she hadn’t signed with AEW, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the star would be moving on from wrestling. He explained that her recent appearances had more to do with working with her friend than setting up the next stage of her wrestling career.

“So with Ronda, it’s a one-shot deal,” Meltzer said. “Obviously, if Ronda wants to work more, they’ll use her anytime. She was doing a favor for Marina [Shafir], to help Marina, and you know, that’s that. It could change, but I do not expect — there’s a reason that Ronda wanted to finish. It’s a family reason.

These shows that she’s worked have all been in Los Angeles. They’ve all been to team with Marina, so it’s a night out of fun for her. It’s not like she’s on the road or anything like that. She didn’t leave WWE to go to AEW. Stranger things have happened, but certainly the idea when she left WWE was that she was done with wrestling and that she was moving on to the next stage of her life.”

Eric Bischoff Says Ronda Rousey Is Overrated

Looking back on Rousey’s surprise ROH appearance, Eric Bischoff was left with more questions than answers. The WWE Hall of Famer claimed that Rousey is overrated and isn’t as big of a star as she seems to think she is.

Ronda Rousey left WWE in August 2023 bringing her second run with the company to an end.
