Ronda Rousey Boxing Dubbed A Terrible Idea
Is former WWE Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey really ready to take on the challenge of getting in the boxing ring?
Ronda Rousey revolutionised MMA, almost single-handedly forcing UFC to embrace female fighters, launching a new division that has produced plenty of top stars.
Rousey dominated the sport for several years, racking up win after win until she came up against a dominant Holly Holm in 2015. Rousey returned to the Octagon after her first loss the following year against Amanda Nunes, but the magic was gone, and Nunes racked up a dominant win.
Ronda Rousey parlayed that success into a run in WWE that began in 2018 and culminated in her headlining WrestleMania 35 with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Rousey returned to WWE in 2022 but was done with the company again in 2023. After her second exit, Rousey had nothing good to say about former WWE boss Vince McMahon.
Now, it’s been rumoured that Rousey could be set to fight again, this time in a boxing ring against former Unified World Lightweight Champion Katie Taylor. But that could be a very bad idea.
Ronda Rousey Set To Get In The Boxing Ring?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why Rousey might be tempted by a big payday, but she should be under no illusions about defeating Taylor at her own game:
I don’t know how serious this is. I’m very, very sceptical about this for a number of reasons. I could see Netflix paying a lot of money for something like this.
[…] Her doing boxing is such a terrible idea. If the idea is that they are able to offer her a ridiculous payday, and it’s, “Alright, I’ll go in their box for this ridiculous amount of money,” it’s possible. Then I can sort of see it, but she doesn’t like to lose, and she has no chance of winning against Katie Taylor in a boxing match.
Could they do it in an MMA match? I don’t see Katie Taylor wanting that because she’d have no chance of winning that.
