Roman Reigns Admits WWE Has Changed Its Booking Strategy

Roman Reigns revealed some fascinating insights into how WWE’s booking strategy has completely transformed over the years.

During his October 8, 2025, appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the former Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns dropped some serious truth bombs about the difference between WWE’s old approach and their current creative direction.

Back in WWE’s earlier days, the booking strategy was all about hierarchy and protecting certain positions. In the old system, wrestlers were basically assigned roles to make the main event stars look incredible, with everyone else playing supporting characters in someone else’s story.

There Is No Top Guy Is WWE, Says Roman Reigns

The modern WWE operates completely differently, and Roman Reigns made this crystal clear during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Describing the current competitive landscape, he emphasized that today’s WWE is more like a shark tank. This means nobody’s position is guaranteed, and everyone’s constantly looking to move up the card, creating a much more competitive internal environment.

This is what he said:

“The right thing in WWE? That doesn’t make sense — that’s like trying to be the good guy in the ocean. You wanna be Rose or Jack? You wanna live or not? There’s not enough room in WWE, there’s not enough real estate. You have to get what’s yours, and that’s what I’m teaching these guys — you have to take it now.”

“They’re saying Hollywood. Cody can try to put it there, I can try, but everyone’s trying to take these spots. Everyone’s trying to come up, and no one cares if you’re doing good today. That’s what WWE is. It’s not like Hollywood, where they put a number on us and everyone serves the top spot. Everyone here wants to be #1 or #2 — they don’t care if I look good. They just want the good look. They want to be in the promised land. It’s not the title, it’s the space I’m speaking of.”
