Roman Reigns Set For Huge Title Match At WWE Royal Rumble

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble in a match that he’s not happy about.

For the first time since WWE Crown Jewel on November 4th, Roman Reigns will have to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at the Royal Rumble. That match will take place on January 27th.

On the January 5th edition of WWE Smackdown, the Tribal Chief found out who his opponent will be as AJ Styles, LA Knight and Randy Orton faced off in a high stakes triple threat match while Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis watched from ringside.

The match between Styles, Orton and Knight featured several nearfalls with each man coming close to winning. However, the music of Roman Reigns hit after Orton hit an RKO and that was the end of the match. That’s because Reigns, Solo Sikoa & Jimmy Uso (with Paul Heyman) beat up Styles, Orton & Knight all around the ring.

After Reigns and Solo hit a double team Spear/Samoan Spike on Orton, they celebrated in the ring. While that was going on, Aldis went up to Heyman at ringside and Aldis told Heyman to tell Reigns that Roman Reigns has to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Styles, Orton & Knight in a four-way match at the Royal Rumble.

What a fatal four-way means is that Reigns could lose his title without even being pinned because, in a four-way match, the first fall wins.

How Many Title Defenses Did Roman Reigns Have In 2023?

Roman Reigns was the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for all of 2023. During that calendar year, Reigns wrestled a total of 11 matches, but only seven of those matches were televised.

Of those seven televised matches, only five of them were Undisputed WWE Universal Championship matches. Reigns defeated Kevin Owens at Royal Rumble, Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber, Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, Jey Uso at SummerSlam and LA Knight at Crown Jewel. All five of those matches featured outside interference from The Bloodline helping Reigns keep his title.

Can Reigns do it against Randy Orton, AJ Styles and LA Knight in the same match? Find out at the WWE Royal Rumble on January 27th.
