Roman Reigns Says Jon Moxley “Couldn’t Be The Man In WWE”
WWE Universal Champion has had some choice words for his ex-Shield partner Jon Moxley, saying the former AEW Champion couldn’t usurp him as ‘the man’ in WWE.
The man then known as Dean Ambrose walked away from WWE after his contract expired in the spring of 2019. WWE took the unusual step of telling the audience about Ambrose’s imminent exit and although he was handily defeated on his way out of the company by the likes of Drew McIntyre on Raw, the company gave The Shield one last stand together.
As soon as Ambrose’s contract with the company expired, he released a video where he told the world he was reverting to his previous wrestling moniker of Jon Moxley. He then wasted no time making headlines as he showed up both in New Japan Pro Wrestling as well as making his AEW debut at Double Or Nothing.
Ahead of SummerSlam, the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns spoke candidly about the man he stills calls Dean to Ariel Helwani on BT Sport, saying:
“Dean [Moxley], obviously, is doing what Dean is doing. I think he’s happy over there at AEW. If he could have been the man here (in WWE), he would have been the man here, but he couldn’t be the man because I’m the man. Seth Rollins is going through the same thing, but he’s doing great. I can say that as someone who is still doing better than him. I’m the Universal Champion. I’m the Head of the Table. This is my company. He’s still a great talent who is doing some of the best work of his career.”
Headlines were made when Reigns’ SummerSlam opponent John Cena referenced Ambrose in a promo by name, saying that Roman Reigns drove him out of the company.
