Roman Reigns Overtakes WWE Legend As He Passes Another Milestone

Roman Reigns WWE Universal Champion

Roman Reigns has been a champion like no other in WWE for well over thirty years as he has dominated SmackDown as Universal Champion for over 1,000 days.

As the wrestling business has evolved over the years, the likelihood of another WWE Superstar ever reaching a four-figure title reign looked very unlikely but Roman Reigns has put his name down in the record books as one of the greatest stars in company history as he maintains an iron grip over his championship.

Pedro Morales, Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, and Bruno Sammartino are the only stars in company history to have held the WWE Championship for 1,000 days. Sammartino achieved the feat twice and he and Backlund are the only men to have held the title for over 2,000 days.

Reigns’ name can be ranked among those legends as he has now overtaken Perdro Morales’ WWE Title reign that lasted 1,027 days. Morales won the title from Ivan Koloff in February 1971 and held the gold until December 1973 when he lost to Stan Stasiak. Pedro Morales also holds the distinction of being the first triple crown winner in WWE history as he became the first star to hold the WWE, Intercontinental, and Tag Team Championships on different occasions.

Roman Reigns now has the fifth-longest world title reign in WWE history and next on his list of legends to overtake is Bruno Sammartino whose second reign as WWE Champion lasted 1,237 days. To surpass that Reigns would have to hold his title until late January 2024.
