Roman Reigns Discusses Hostile Royal Rumble 2015 Crowd

In an interview with Hot 97 to promote Susan G Komen as part of WWE’s pro-activity for breast cancer awareness month, Roman Reigns also discussed the hostile Philadelphia crowd that pretty much revolted against the entire Royal Rumble match once it became crystal clear he was going to inevitably be victorious.

It was rough. It’s crazy because it was one of the most special nights of my life, but it didn’t go exactly like I’d hoped or planned. So it was emotional. It was a roller coaster. When you’re out there in that ring, there’s a lot of emotion and passion going on. I love what I do. I love this form of art. So to get that negative response, it can hurt your feelings.

Reigns also goes on to mention that he had a feeling The Rock knew the reactions would be negative.

I think he had a good idea. With social media, with so many different outlets and platforms that we have now, you can kind of get a taste of what’s happening, the way people are swinging and where you’re falling. Leading up, for weeks I could see it developing and the movement getting stronger. I knew I wasn’t going to be a popular guy that night. I didn’t realize it was going to be so strong.

To be honest, I don’t think The Rock had a damn clue what would happen. He had a look of disbelief while raising Reigns hand in triumph; a confused expression of “I thought people like this guy!” I don’t blame The Rock at all. Who wants to keep up with subpar WWE television when you’re out filming Hollywood blockbusters and living the high life in excess?

It’s good that Reigns doesn’t seem too affected by the negativity. He needs to come to accept that right now a majority of longtime wrestling fans simply won’t like him yet due to his limited move set and awkward microphone work. What’s most important is that he is unwavered and realizes he must keep working hard and pushing himself to sway audiences on his side.
