Roman Reigns Reveals Disagreement With Vince McMahon Over Theme Music
Roman Reigns has spoken about a disagreement he had with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon over his theme music ahead of main eventing WrestleMania 37 against Edge and Daniel Bryan.
Following several months away from WWE due to issues around the COVID-19 pandemic, Roman Reigns made a statement on his return to the company at SummerSlam 2020, laying waste to ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman following their Universal Championship match.
Following his emphatic return, Reigns aligned himself with a new ‘Special Counsel’, Paul Heyman. Only weeks later at Payback, he captured the Universal Championship in a No-Holds Barred Triple Threat match against the same two men he attacked at SummerSlam. He has held the title ever since with the aid of Heyman and his cousins, the Usos.
One of the ‘Tribal Chief’s biggest challenges came at WrestleMania 37, when he had to put his championship on the line in against two multi-time WWE Champions in Edge and Daniel Bryan – now AEW’s Bryan Danielson.
In an interview with Bleacher Report, Roman Reigns has revealed that he had an issue heading into the ‘Showcase of the Immortals’, and that was his new theme music which by that point was months in the making. Reigns wasn’t convinced that the music was ready to go, saying he didn’t ‘feel it’, although Vince McMahon disagreed. In the end, Reigns made the decision not to use it.
“It wasn’t ready. Me and the big man weren’t agreeing on a couple of things, so I was like, ‘Screw it, I’m not going out to it now.’ I have to feel it because nobody outside of my cousins and Paul is walking out to that. To me, these are the types of things I have to 100 percent be connected to, and that’s why our audience can trust me and the presentation and the character and everything I’m doing.”
Roman Reigns want on to say that if something doesn’t feel right, he isn’t going to do it.
“If it doesn’t feel right, I’m not going to do that s–t. It’s got to be on point with how I feel, and I have to be able to commit and connect to it. Otherwise it’s going to be see-through. I’m not the type that can memorize and recite. I have to feel. I have to have instincts. And for me to be able to do that, I have to be comfortable and committed and believe in what’s presented to me so I can present it to our audience.”
At WrestleMania, Roman Reigns made his entrance to the theme he had been using since he was a member of The Shield and retained his title in dominant fashion when he piled Bryan on top of Edge and pinned the two of them at the same time. He debuted his new music a few weeks later on the April 30th episode of SmackDown.
