Tech Blunder During ROH Event Costs Tony Khan “Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars”
Tony Khan is looking to help out fans who missed ROH Death Before Dishonor.
On August 29, Ring of Honor held Death Before Dishonor at the famous 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. However, the broadcast didn’t go to plan.
Due to an issue with the service provider, Brightcove, a huge number of fans using Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge were unable to watch the action. Once the issues became apparent, the feed was made free to air on YouTube.
Speaking at the post-Death Before Dishonor media scrum, Khan explained what happened with the feed and why he decided to make the show available on YouTube. He added that those HonorClub members affected will receive a free month by way of an apology.
Khan said that the move will cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars, but he feels that it’s the right thing to do.
“Tonight, our streaming provider had issues only with browsers, and if anybody’s a fan, and if anybody’s affected by it, I didn’t wanna have anybody that’s not included, so I made a decision in the chair in the back while the show was happening.
I put the show up free worldwide on YouTube… And I’m gonna give everybody a one-month credit, all the current subscribers… Really, everybody should be able to get that credit, and I heard it was only on certain browsers.
At first, we thought it was only (Google) Chrome and Firefox, but then also, they said Microsoft Edge. So I said, ‘You know, if it’s affecting those people, everybody should be able to just watch it for free on YouTube,’ and we’ll rectify it with the streaming provider, Brightcove, that was responsible…
The show we delivered was fantastic, and then I think new fans must have seen it. It was a well-received choice. People thought it was a good thing to do, and you know, that’s a lot of money — a month of subscriptions — I’m not gonna lie to you.
We have thousands of subscribers. That’s hundreds of thousands of dollars that I’m gonna eat with a month subscription, but it’s okay, because we made new fans. I’ll rectify it with the people responsible on the other end. The fans got a great show tonight, and it seemed like an almost unanimously positive response on social media.”
Tony Khan Responds To Chris Jericho Speculation
Ahead of the event, Tony Khan was asked around rumours that Chris Jericho will be heading to WWE when his AEW contract expires. It’s believed that Jericho will become a free agent in December, leading to speculation he could appear at the Royal Rumble in early 2026.
While commenting on the veteran’s importance to AEW’s early years, Khan said he’d love to work with Jericho in the future. A line that only added to the feeling that the star will be leaving when his contract allows.
According to the most recent report on the situation, Chris Jericho has already reached out to WWE to explore the possibilty of doing a deal.
