Rob Van Dam Names The Best Frog Splashes In Wrestling

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam has shared his thoughts on which wrestlers deliver the best Frog Splashes, naming a legendary rival and a current SmackDown star as the standouts.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Rob Van Dam praised Montez Ford for executing the most impressive version of the move in today’s wrestling landscape.

“I think Montez Ford definitely,” he said.

Ford’s high-flying athleticism and incredible elevation have made his Frog Splash a fan favourite, drawing comparisons to some of the all-time greats. Van Dam also addressed the long-standing debate over his own Five Star Frog Splash versus that of the late Eddie Guerrero, another WWE Hall of Famer.

“And, of course, Eddie Guerrero. You know, mine and Eddie’s, that’s the lifelong contendership. Everyone compares our Frog Splashes.”

Despite being widely recognised for having one of the most spectacular versions of the move, Van Dam admitted he wasn’t the innovator. He credited early pioneers like Tonga Kid and Jimmy Snuka but explained how he elevated the move by adding his own flair.

“I’m sure it’s a move that, out of all my moves, it’s the least original,” he said. “I watched Tonga Kid do it, Jimmy Snuka, but I did kind of make it my own by turning in the air and being able to go all the way across the ring. I started going for the furthest corner every time for a while, that was my thing.”

He also reflected on how he sometimes made things harder for himself.

“Sometimes that’s cool if a guy’s closer to one corner, I go and grab the corner, look at the crowd, and be like, ‘Nah, go over to the other one,’ and sometimes that’s fun… and then sometimes I regret it.”

Van Dam’s Five Star Frog Splash remains one of the most iconic finishing moves in wrestling history.

Why Does Rob Van Dam Believe WWE Retired The Hardcore Championship?

Rob Van Dam spoke about why he thinks WWE retired the Hardcore Championship and said that he believes that the company never intended for the title to get such a large following during the early 2000s, but because it became a fan favourite, largely due to Van Dam’s legendary matches whilst holding the title, the company decided to remove the championship from its roster of titles.
