Road Dogg Claims WWE Booked Themselves Into A Corner With Tag Team

Road Dogg cuts a promo

WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg has claimed that the company booked a former tag team into a corner as they became unbeatable.

Luke Harper and Erick Rowan made their name in WWE as part of The Wyatt Family, acting as the henchmen for Bray Wyatt. However, after the group split, the two men struggled to find their feet for any length of time as solo acts and ended up being brought back together but with a very different look.

WWE reimagined the pair as The Bludgeon Brothers, complete with new outfits and oversized hammers. The Bludgeon Brothers dominated SmackDown into 2018 and finally captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 34.

Speaking on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, Road Dogg explained how he felt WWE backed themselves into a corner with how Harper and Rowan were presented at this time as they seemed to be indestructible:

“During this time, look, we came up with this Bludgeon Brothers thing because we kind of felt like we’d run through them as Bray Wyatt’s henchmen. And it was like, man, these two guys are too talented to not do something with and so you know, right, wrong or indifferent, The Bludgeon Brothers, that’s what we came up with.”

“Then we booked ourselves into a corner where nobody could touch these guys. It’s like, well, how do you get the titles off of them? How do you ever beat them to win the tag titles? You know? And it was like, oh, God, okay, now what do we do? But you know, a lot of this stuff is trial and error and having a good time and but also trying to, you know, utilise the talent the best way you can and put on the best television show you can.”

The Bludgeon Brother’s title reign ended on SmackDown in August 2018. That switch came as a result of Rowan suffering a torn bicep with the team shelved following that.
