Road Dogg Believes Asuka Should Be “The Roman Reigns Of Women’s Wrestling Right Now”
It’s fair to consider Road Dogg as a big fan of Asuka based on his recent comments praising the Japanese superstar whom he thinks deserves a monster push by WWE.
When it comes to getting a massive push in WWE, they don’t get much bigger than Roman Reigns over the past three years. Reigns has held the WWE Universal Championship since August 2020 and as we approach the Royal Rumble, he’s still holding that title nearly two and a half years later. Reigns has also been WWE Champion for the past eight months as well.
In terms of women’s wrestlers in WWE, Charlotte Flair has by far the most title reigns with 14 of them including her current run as the Smackdown Women’s Champion.
Asuka is another woman that has done very well in WWE with thee total reigns as a Women’s Champion on the main roster and she is a three-time Tag Team Champion. Asuka also held NXT Title for 522 days without ever losing that. That NXT Title reign is the longest in the history of the brand.
On a recent of his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast on AdFreeShows.com, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg praised Asuka heavily while claiming that she would succeed if she was pushed as strong as Reigns is. Road Dogg was a former head writer for WWE on Smackdown when Asuka was one of the featured women’s wrestlers on the brand in the lat 2010s.
“I think as far as presentation, in ring skills, dare I say promo skills just because I love what she does and how she represents herself via her verbal skills, I just love it and I think everybody else does too. I think she should probably be the Roman Reigns of women’s wrestling right now. It’s just my opinion.”
“I know the big argument is, well, she can’t cut a promo domestically. I think we’re past that as a culture, as a society. I think it’s totally okay if she spoke in her native tongue and we subtitled it. I think it would be totally fine how we do it now where she just goes off and you don’t know what she’s saying but you know she’s saying something that ain’t nice to you. You know what I mean?”
As he continued, Road Dogg praised Asuka’s ability in the ring.
“I think her work and her grasp mentally of just putting together a match and keeping her character strong in the match yet being selfless and selling for everybody, is probably the best female wrestler in the world. I know people will doubt that.”
“I always say Zoey Stark is one of the best female wrestlers I’ve ever seen and I firmly believe that, but I believe it’s more from an athletic standpoint and her in-ring work supersedes who she is, and I think Asuka’s in-ring work matches who she is so it just makes her a magnanimous star. She’s incredible. Asuka is incredible.”
Asuka has been absent from WWE TV since losing to Rhea Ripley on the December 12, 2022, edition of Raw. It’s unknown when she’ll return, but the Royal Rumble is always a good time to bring people back.
