Ricochet Hits Back At Fan Theory About WWE Exit

Ricochet AEW

Ricochet has opened up about why he left WWE.

After letting his WWE contract expire, Ricochet made his AEW debut at All In at Wembley Stadium. The move had been expected for several weeks following reports the star was looking to move on.

Since becoming All Elite, Ricochet has already challenged for the International Title twice, while becoming a regular across Dynamite, Collision, and Rampage.

Ricochet also made a surprise appearance at NJPW Power Struggle where he attacked IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. after his successful title defence against Shingo Takagi. Following the assault, the pair look set to meet at Wrestle Dynasty in January 2025.

Ricochet On Why He Chose AEW

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Ricochet broke down why he decided to leave WWE and join AEW. The star explained that while he was with WWE he always felt he was starting over despite being with the company for six years.

He went on to deny that he simply signed for the “highest bidder,” instead, crediting AEW with reigniting his passion for pro wrestling.

“I wasn’t going to go to the highest bidder, I was just going to go to whoever was going to make me feel good and ignite that spark again, because I felt like that fire that was burning inside of me was still there, but it was just like little embers that needed that gasoline on it to really make it ignite.

At the time, I felt like AEW could be the gasoline for my fire. Since being there, I feel like I made the right choice.

Just even getting to be in there with the guys that I’ve been in there with Lio and AR Fox and even Nick Wayne, someone I’ve never been in there with, Sammy Guevara, Mortos, people I’ve never worked with that I’ve been excited with, but also people like AR Fox and Lio, who I’ve worked with before years ago, now we’re both different performers.

So I really think that had a lot to do with it. But there was no specific moment where something happened and I just flipped the switch and that’s where I’m going. I just think it’s what felt right.”

During the same interview, Ricochet gave an insight into his partner Samantha Irvin leaving WWE to pursue a career in music. He said that leaving had been on her mind since WrestleMania, before reiterating that Irvin left because she wanted to be a manager in the style of Paul Heyman rather than a ring announcer.
