Ricochet Expresses Frustration With His Role In WWE
Ricochet has revealed his frustrations with how he was booked during his WWE tenure.
The 35 year-old spent over six years with WWE after joining the company in January 2018 following a three year stint with Lucha Underground.
After a successful year in NXT, including a spell as NXT North American Champion, the Illinois-born star moved to the main roster and went on to lift multiple titles during the ensuing five years, including reigns as Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion and the inaugural WWE Speed Champion whilst also lifting the prestigious SmackDown World Cup in 2022.
Rumours of Ricochet’s departure from WWE circulated in the summer of 2024, with the writing appearing to be on the wall when the star was written off television following a brutal assault by Bron Breakker on the 10th June edition of Raw. He would leave WWE following the expiration of his contract on 30th June.
Speaking recently during an appearance on ‘Talk Is Jericho‘, Ricochet expressed frustration at his WWE booking, feeling that he was used too often to enhance other talent:
“It’s like, he [Bron Breakker] just started on Raw, they’re trying to make him a big threat, they’re trying to make him do something that’s dastardly. That was Ricochet’s role to take the moves from the people, that was always Ricochet’s role.
It doesn’t matter if it was Braun or Drew or whoever, you know what I mean? Bronson Reed, Shinsuke, to take their move. I’m gonna take their move. It is what it is, it was a blessing and a curse, I blame myself.”
Ricochet Explains Decision To Join AEW
Ricochet signed with AEW in August 2024, making his surprise debut during the Casino Gauntlet Match at AEW All In. Despite ultimately not claiming victory at London’s Wembley Stadium on 26th August, the star looks set for a bright future in Tony Khan’s organisation after defeating Kyle Fletcher in his singles debut on the 28th August edition of Dynamite.
Despite having positive words for his stint in WWE, Ricochet recently revealed that a desire to have more fun was behind his decision to sign with AEW.
