Ricochet Granted First AEW Title Match Against Top Star

Ricochet AEW

Ricochet will receive a championship match against Will Ospreay on one of the biggest AEW Dynamite episodes of the year.

At AEW All In London on August 25th, former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet made his highly anticipated All Elite Wrestling debut. While Ricochet didn’t win the Casino Gauntlet Match that night, he impressed everybody watching.

During his AEW career, Ricochet has amassed a record of 3-0 in singles matches with victories over Kyle Fletcher and Sammy Guevara.

On AEW Dynamite in Wilkes-Barre, PA, “The Beast” Mortos was the third man to lose to Ricochet in a fast-paced match that ended with the Vertigo slam. Apparently, three wins is all it takes to get a title shot in AEW as fans found out later in the show.

Following his victory, Ricochet was backstage about to be interviewed by Renee Paquette, but the AEW International Champion Will Ospreay interrupted. That’s when Ricochet informed Ospreay about the match they were going to have in two weeks.

“You told me to get my wins up and come see you. Let me show you how it is from my perspective. From the moment I stepped foot in AEW, everyone has been calling me out to try to prove they’re better than me.”

“It seems everyone is more worried about you than they are about me. No one has been calling you out. So let me do the honors. In two weeks, I hope you’re not too busy. I took your advice. I talked to Tony. And on October 2nd, it’s going to be Ricochet versus Will Ospreay for the International Championship. I’ll be seeing you soon. Real soon, little bro.”

That October 2nd episode of Dynamite from Pittsburgh is a big deal for AEW because it’s the five-year anniversary of when Dynamite started in October 2019.

Ricochet Would Be Open To A Heel Run

During his run in WWE that saw him compete on NXT as well as the main roster shows Raw & Smackdown, Ricochet was in babyface mode all the time since he is a high-flier who is fun to watch. He never got to explore his heel side, but would he be open to it? In a recent interview, Ricochet made it clear that he’s open to anything.

“I think everybody is just kind of an extension of who they feel they are. So I feel like, for me, for example, I’m not afraid to tell somebody to shut up and smack them in their mouths. At the same time, I feel like there aren’t really good guys and bad guys. Everyone has their story and how they tell it. People can resonate with that. Maybe one of these days my story will be told differently than how I feel now. Maybe I will feel differently later, so who knows, but right now, I feel great. I feel good.

It’s hard to really get me down. It’s always been hard since in my real life, my wrestling life, it’s hard to get me down. It’s hard to really get on my bad side. Sure, I will communicate with you. We will talk about it and we’ll fight if we need to. I’ve always been, if not for the fans and not for the people, I wouldn’t be where I’m at. I’m not afraid to touch Will Ospreay or whomever it is. If we got a problem, we can squash it right now however we need to squash it, but good guy, bad guy, it’s different. It’s all how you feel in the moment and I might feel differently later.”

The Ricochet-Ospreay match will be a first for them in AEW, but the two incredible athletes have met in the past in New Japan Pro Wrestling and had some memorable sequences that many wrestling fans still remember over five years later.
