Ricky Starks Scolded By AEW Star For WWE Visit
Ricky Starks’ visit to a WWE event didn’t go down well with some in AEW.
After suffering a major pectoral injury in June 2022, Cody Rhodes returned to action at the 2023 Royal Rumble. The American Nightmare went on to win the famous match setting up his first attempt at dethroning Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
Shortly after the Rumble, a photo began doing the rounds on social media featuring AEW star Ricky Starks walking with Rhodes into the Alamodome. Starks and Rhodes have a close friendship going back several years, but unsurprisingly, the photo caused a stir on social media.
Cody Rhodes later said he hoped Starks hadn’t gotten in trouble for his visit, explaining he was just there to offer support.
Ricky Starks Was Told Off For WWE Visit
During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Starks recalled attending the Royal Rumble and the social media outcry. While the man himself said he didn’t see why there would be an issue, he revealed that an AEW star told them it “wasn’t a good look.”
“You know what’s so funny about that whole situation? First off, yes, I did go see a friend of mine for his match, obviously, because it was an hour away. Secondly, they caught me walking to the bus. So like, Okay. Third off, somebody who worked at Alamo decided to take a video, take that screenshot, and then post it.
I remember the next day, Sunday, I woke up and this whole thing was blowing up. I was like what is this?
I had people from my job, I had one guy who was like ‘Were you at the Rumble last night?’ I said ‘Yeah and what the f*ck about it?’ He goes ‘Just saying that’s a bad look.’
How is it a bad look? I can’t control somebody taking security footage while I am walking to a bus, I don’t control that. Tell me how that is a bad look.
We got people on our own program talking about people in the other company, but me having my security footage exposed is a bad look? Give me a break!
It was simply visiting a friend. I was only on the bus. I stayed on the bus. I wasn’t trying to cause any type of issues or anything like that. The whole purpose was I was walking to the bus so I wouldn’t be seen by anybody.”
Starks then went on to recall being spotted in the crowd at WrestleMania 40, again in support of Rhodes. This time, Starks was quick to point out that he wasn’t the only AEW star in attendance, before adding that he’d already told Khan he would be at the show in advance.
The former World Tag Team Champion hasn’t been seen on AEW television since March, and he’s repeatedly denied being injured, as well as refusing to return to work.
There’s no word on if or when Starks will return to television.
