Ricky Starks On Unscripted Promo He Delivered Towards MJF
Ricky Starks has recalled his thought process leading into a memorable promo he cut on MJF during an episode of AEW Dynamite.
After winning the AEW World Title for the first time at Full Gear in November 2022, Maxwell Jacob Friedman had to deal with people coming at him for his championship. The first challenger ended up being the former FTW Champion, Ricky Starks.
On the December 7th edition of AEW Dynamite, Ricky Starks competed in the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal and won it to earn an AEW World Title shot against MJF.
While Ricky Starks winning that battle royal was huge for him, the promo he did on MJF after his match is something that got the wrestling world talking. Starks delivered a memorable promo with great lines such as this: “I’m slapping that mole off your neck, I’m stomping an a**hole into you, and I’m taking that title.”
In an interview with Mac Davis for Sportskeeda Wrestling, Ricky Starks was asked about that promo against MJF with Starks admitting that it was all unscripted and from the heart.
“The one against MJF? Yeah, that one was all straight from the heart. I stumbled a few times, but I never faltered. So yeah, that’s how I feel, I think people will appreciate the genuine feelings that a person can give out, especially for the fact that I’ve had so many people that they tell me ‘I loved that, I loved what you did, I loved what you said.’ If anything, if I were to die tomorrow, I’d hope that leaves a big legacy that Ricky [Starks] was a very genuine person.”
While Ricky Starks didn’t beat MJF for the AEW World Title during their match on December 14th, it has been a good start to 2023 for Starks with multiple wins against former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho among others.
