Ric Flair Claims Surprising WWE Name Never Got Push They Deserved

WWE Legend Recalls Awkward Moment During Ric Flair's Hall Of Fame Speech

Ric Flair thinks an influential WWE backstage figure deserved more.

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair enjoyed the kind of career in the ring that young stars can only dream of. Not only that, he remained at the top of his game across multiple decades and generations, competing with the very best to ever lace up a pair of boots.

But above all, there’s one wrestler who he feels deserved more than they got.

Ric Flair Heaps Praise On WWE Veteran

During a new interview with Escapist Magazine, Flair said William Regal never got the push he deserved. Although undoubtedly talented, Regal famously never won the World Championship in either WWE or WCW.

Regal and Flair shared the ring on 29 occasions during the 1990s and into the 2000s, competing for the last time at a WWE live event in Japan on February 12, 2008.

Flair added that Regal was an impressive technical wrestler and a great guy.

“Another good technical wrestler is Steve Regal. Very good. Very technical. He never really got the push he deserved. But Steve is an excellent technical wrestler and, on top of that, a great guy.”

During the same interview, Ric Flair gave his thoughts on John Cena’s retirement and his hopes for the 17-time World Champion. Flair said that above all else, he hopes that when Cena retires in December, he’ll be able to walk away and stay away from the ring.

Flair famously retired at WrestleMania 24 opposite Shawn Michaels, but returned to the ring a little over a year later before resuming his career with TNA.

The Nature Boy finally retired on July 31, 2022, at a special event under the grand old Jim Crockett Promotions banner. Despite hinting on several occasions that he could be tempted to wrestle again, Flair has so far remained retired.
