Ric Flair Wanted To Fight WWE Hall Of Famer Backstage

Ric Flair

Ric Flair’s real-life tension with Eric Bischoff is one of the most storied in professional wrestling.

The corrosion in their relationship first appeared when Bischoff, who served as the Senior Vice President of WCW, reprimanded and suspended Flair for missing a Thunder episode in 1998 to attend his son’s amateur wrestling event.

Once, while speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff mentioned that Flair’s hatred of him might also have stemmed from his 1998 locker room speech wherein he declared Flair was no longer a top wrestler in the company.

Bischoff stated that the veteran wrestler felt hurt, also admitting that his comments lacked maturity.

The Nature Boy’s suspension was also woven into an angle that saw him facing Bischoff at the Starrcade 1998 pay-per-view.

The industry veterans have reached a truce in the past only to go back on their word and then reconcile again.

Recently, while speaking on his podcast, The Stevie Richards Show, Richards shared an actual incident involving Ric Flair that transpired on a WWE Raw episode backstage.

The event occurred on the night when Bischoff was introduced as Raw’s General Manager in 2002.

His (Bischoff) first time coming into, I mean, you can imagine, he was trying to put WWE out of business. The only thing I witnessed was Flair wanting to fight him. And Flair, red in the face, yelling and screaming at him and Bischoff very calmly…I may misremember some of that, but Flair was not happy. Flair was hot that Bischoff was there.

Richards also commended Vince McMahon’s business acumen for shaking hands with his biggest rival in the industry, as it would make the company a lot of money.
