Ric Flair Recalls Being In Tears After Vince McMahon Confrontation

Ric Flair vs. Vince McMahon

Ric Flair has given details on a confrontation he had with Vince McMahon which left him in tears.

Vince McMahon has been well known over the years for not backing down to talent, stepping in to situations and standing his ground no matter who he is talking to.

With Ric Flair’s in-ring career drawing to a conclusion in 2007, ‘The Nature Boy’ was somewhat stuck in the midcard on shows. He was teaming with and later wrestling Carlito, and a long way from the success of Evolution which had concluded.

Speaking on his To Be The Man podcast, Ric Flair discussed the time he was in a match on Monday Night Raw which left him at odds with Vince McMahon. Following a mixed tag team match where he teamed with Torrie Wilson to take on Carlito and Victoria, ‘The Nature Boy’ came backstage to be confronted by an angry McMahon.

The WWE Chairman had taken exception to Flair letting Victoria throw him around “like she was Ricky Steamboat”, and the argument led to Flair quitting the company.

I walk into Gorilla [backstage area] and Vince said, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ I said, ‘I’m working with a girl. I made her look like who she is, a great worker.’ ‘Who booked that match?’ ‘I don’t know, somebody right here. You just watched it.’ That was the exact conversation, and I quit.

Following the backstage confrontation, Ric Flair went to McMahon’s office to conclude business, but exception was taken to the fact that he arrived with lawyers and McMahon’s reaction led to Flair crying.

[Vince McMahon] chewed my a** out and I started crying and said, ‘Okay’. He cussed out my lawyers. He said, ‘Who the f*** are these two j*ckoffs? You’ve got a lot of balls to bring a lawyer into my office. Aren’t you man enough to talk to me man to man? I hate lawyers. I hate my own f*cking lawyer!’

Ric Flair is set to lace up the boots one more time at this year’s Starrcast in July 2022, in a six-man tag where he will team with FTR against The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and a yet to be named partner. There will also be a final reunion of The Four Horsemen at the event.
