Ric Flair Pledges To Stay With AEW Long After Sting Retires

Sting Ric Flair

Ric Flair isn’t going anywhere.

A little over a week after making his AEW debut on Dynamite as a gift to Sting, Ric Flair announced he’d signed a multi-year deal with the company. The deal Flair signed with AEW saw his Wooooo! Energy brand become the official energy drink partner of the promotion.

However, Flair has repeatedly appeared on AEW television, often standing side by side with Sting as the veteran heads to Revolution and retirement on March 3rd, 2024.

A number of fans have been vocally opposed to Flair appearing in AEW given previous allegations of sexual assault, and had hoped he would fade into the background when Sting retires. But it seems that won’t be the case.

Speaking to The Wrestling Classic, Flair said he’ll be around AEW long after Sting retires.

“I’ve known Tony for a long time, we’ve been great friends. And the opportunity just presented itself, probably because of Sting. But I’ll be there a couple of years after Sting is gone too. I don’t know what it leads to. I’d like to manage my son-in-law. Obviously, I want to be a heel again somewhere.”

Tony Khan Says AEW Isn’t Paying Ric Flair

After being faced with significant backlash over signing Flair, Tony Khan denied his company was paying the controversial Hall of Famer, claiming they were actually making money off the appearances.

“We’re not paying Ric Flair; Ric Flair is essentially paying us,” Khan said. “We’re getting paid by Wooooo Energy for all of his appearances, so we’re collecting revenue from them.”

Sting will next be in action at AEW Worlds End, teaming with Darby Allin, Chris Jericho, and Sammy Guevara to take on Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takeshita, Big Bill, and Ricky Starks.
