Ric Flair Says AEW Rejected His Ideas For Big Match
Ric Flair revealed what he thought should happen in Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution.
It was in October 2023 when Tony Khan presented Ric Flair as a “gift” to Sting in All Elite Wrestling. That was the official AEW debut of the 75-year-old Flair, who had been associated with WWE on and off for the previous 22 years.
Flair’s involvement with AEW would last until the March 3rd AEW Revolution PPV when Flair was at ringside for Sting’s final match. Sting won his retirement match with Darby Allin in a matchup that saw them defeat The Young Bucks to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles. Flair took a double superkick from The Young Bucks in that match.
As for Ric Flair, he is done with AEW because his Wooooo! Energy drink is no longer a sponsor of the AEW product. AEW didn’t use Flair after Sting’s retirement, so it was over four months ago when he last appeared on AEW television.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Ric Flair said he pitched an idea (likely to AEW’s boss Tony Khan) for the match at Revolution, but he got no response for the idea that Flair thinks would have made him a heel.
“I gave them a finish for that match and they looked at me like I had seven different (inaudible)…I don’t think Tony knew that I was on blood thinners. I’ve been doing all that sh*t for all these years and I’ve had blood clots since 2012. If he asked me once, he asked me 10 times. He said do not cut yourself, please.”
“I wanted those guys to have the same match but at the end, instead of leaving me laying there like that, just keep me on the outside the whole time. At the end, as Sting is standing there and those guys are gone, I jump on Sting. Boom boom boom, one big move to me [and] puts the Scorpion on me and we go out the way we started 31 years ago.”
“It would have blown the roof off the joint and it would have made me a heel so I had somewhere to go because it’s just hard to get the people to get mad at me now.”
When Was The Last Time Ric Flair Heard From AEW?
Regarding his AEW departure, Ric Flair revealed it had been a while since he heard from All Elite Wrestling.
“I haven’t heard back from him since…Ric, that’s a good idea, we’ll call you later on. At least I thought I could prove to him that I was thinking.”
Mark Henry, who used to work for AEW, chimed in saying “you won’t” possibly as his way of saying that Flair won’t hear back from AEW.
