Rhyno Praises Kevin Owens’ In-Ring Psychology From ROH Days
Former WWE star Rhyno has spoken highly of Kevin Owens’ in-ring psychology, recalling how he took advice from the future WWE star despite having more experience at the time.
Speaking in a video on D-Von Dudley’s YouTube channel, Rhyno reflected on their time together in Ring of Honor and how Kevin Owens, then known as Kevin Steen, offered valuable insights during their 2012 match at ROH Death Before Dishonor X on 15 September.
“I was working with Kevin Owens, and this was in Ring of Honor, he goes, ‘Come in the ring, hit so and so with a spear, hit this person with a spear, hit the referee with a spear.’ Usually, if you do one, you can’t do two or three right in a row, and I did it.”
“Something about Owens and Montreal guys, they really have good psychology. He goes, ‘Trust me,’ and I go, ‘Because it’s you,’ and I did. Holy cow, it just went up and up and up. It was really cool, and he was right.”
At the time, Owens had been wrestling for 12 years, while Rhyno was a 17-year veteran. Despite this, Rhyno acknowledged Owens’ deep understanding of in-ring storytelling, which helped elevate their performance.
The match was well received by fans and earned a three-and-a-half-star rating from Dave Meltzer. The two would meet again in ROH in 2013, competing in an eight-man Steel Cage match. After Owens joined WWE, he and Rhyno briefly teamed up in 2015 for an NXT match against Finn Balor and Samoa Joe, though their partnership was short-lived.
Why Didn’t WWE Use “Gimmicked” Barbed Wire For Kevin Owens Vs. Sami Zayn At Elimination Chamber?
It has been reported that WWE didn’t use “gimmicked” barbed wire for Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn’s unsanctioned match at Elimination Chamber 2025 and the reason for that is supposedly that at least one of the men in the match asked for that to be the case. The barbed wire used in the match was not fake, nor were the barbs shaved or cut in any way, as is usually the case with most matches featuring barbed wire in WWE.
