Rey Mysterio Would “Tip His Mask Twice” for Dominik In One Scenario
Rey Mysterio has given his thoughts on Dominik’s latest challenge.
At Worlds Collide on September 12, Dominik Mysterio will look to surpass Rey Mysterio, at least when it comes to wrestling in AAA.
On the stacked dual WWE and AAA card, Dominik will challenge El Hijo del Vikingo for the Mega Championship. Crucially for Dominik, although his illustrious father competed in the Mexican promotion, he never claimed its top prize.
During an appearance on the RAW Recap podcast, Rey admitted that if his son does win the gold, he’ll be forced to acknowledge the feat.
“Well, the first thing, or first thought that comes to mind is, I never became a Mega Champion in AAA in the four years that I was there. So I honestly, God’s honest truth, I give him his props if he overcomes that obstacle.
Another thing that a Mysterio has never done is become a double champion. carrying a title from the U.S. and a title from Mexico. So if he were to do that, you know, now I’m going to have to tip my mask twice to him. Would it be hard? Yes, it would be, because I wish he was flat on this ground, on Earth, and not in Cloud 9.
But overall, you know, Hijo del Vikingo to me is like an unbelievable superstar athlete, just on a different level. The stuff that he does with ease is amazing. So, I don’t know. He’s going to have a tough challenge in his hands. I mean, Dom. Dirty Dom.
Because, again, Vikingo has defended and has been a great champion for the company, but you just never know, right? You never know what’s going to happen this Friday.”
Rey Mysterio Might Be Surpassed By Dominik
Megan Morant then questioned whether a victory for Dominik at Worlds Collide would make him the greatest Mysterio of all time. Rey said that while it’s perhaps a little early for that conversation, becoming the AAA Mega Champion would move Dominik that bit closer.
“Well, I don’t know if two titles define you as the greatest Mysterio of all time. I mean, this is going to happen in one night. I’ve been doing this for 34 years. Would one night overcome 34 years of career? That’s a people question.
But again, he will start breaking ground to become potentially the best Mysterio of all time. That is always a big possibility, and if he does it this Friday, then he’s just starting… getting closer and closer to that goal.”
Rey Mysterio hasn’t wrestled since being pulled from WrestleMania 41 back in April. During a match on SmackDown 24 hours ahead of his date with El Grande Americano, Mysterio suffered a torn groin and quickly underwent surgery.
It had previously been reported that the WWE Hall of Famer would return to action in August. However, as of September 9, the veteran remains out of action.
