Rey Mysterio Wants To Form Team With Surprising Female WWE Star
Rey Mysterio wants to see WWE embrace mixed tag team matches.
Although WWE has typically shied away from any form of intergender wrestling and mixed tag team matches, that changed in 2018 with the creation of the Mixed Match Challenge.
While the tournament, made up of mixed tag teams, was a one-off, it sparked a wider conversation about intergender wrestling, and such matches have made a little bit of a comeback.
During an appearance on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Mysterio said he’d like to see more mixed tag team matches, although he understands the company’s cautious position.
“I do wish they’d do a little bit more mixed tag matches. I really enjoy those. I think that gets really creative when it comes down to seeing your favorite female superstar and favorite male superstar. I know we’re a little bit sensitive with a man putting his hands on a woman, so we’re trying to stay away from that.”
Mysterio added that if the opportunity came up, he’d love to team with Asuka.
Rey Mysterio Weeks Away From WWE Return
According to a new report, Rey Mysterio will be returning to the ring in August as he continues to recover from surgery.
The former World Champion suffered a torn groin 24 hours ahead of WrestleMania 41, and his planned match with El Grande Americano was scrapped. Mysterio had wanted to wrestle despite the injury, but WWE doctors stepped in.
The veteran quickly underwent surgery, and it’s now expected that he’ll be back in the ring shortly after SummerSlam.
