Rey Mysterio thinks that a multi-time WWE Champion would make an excellent choice as a tag team partner.

During his WWE Hall of Fame career, Rey Mysterio has been known as arguably the best luchador in pro wrestling history, and definitely in WWE history. After more than 30 years in the ring, Rey has built a legacy as a former WWE World Champion who has also held numerous other titles as well.

Rey Mysterio has also had success as a tag team in WWE since he’s held Tag Team Titles with five different partners: Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Batista, Rob Van Dama, and his son, Dominik Mysterio. He also held WCW Tag Team Titles with Konnan (who is Dominik’s Godfather), Billy Kidman, and Juventud Guerrera.

While appearing on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Rey talked about being a fan of mixed tag team wrestling.

“You know, I really enjoy those and I think that just gets really creative when it comes down to seeing your favorite female superstar and male superstar.

I know we’re a little bit sensitive with a man putting his hands on a woman, so we’re trying to stay away from that, but overall, just the beautiful sport of professional wrestling in its full capacity is so beautiful to watch, man. You enjoy it, I enjoy it as a wrestler. I can only imagine how the fans enjoy it as fans.

When it comes to picking a tag team partner, Rey had one of the most successful women in WWE history on his mind.

“I tell you what, I think I would probably go with Asuka.”

The WWE Mixed Match Challenge was a show featuring men and women tagging up in 2018, but it’s a show that most fans have likely forgotten about and there’s no indication that it may come back any time soon.

When Does Rey Mysterio Think He Can Return To The Ring?

Rey Mysterio has been out of action since the night before WrestleMania 41. He suffered a groin injury on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 41, so he missed his match against El Grande Americano and was replaced by Rey Fenix.

As for when he might return to the ring, Rey Mysterio believes he could be back in August, which would mean he would be out for about four months.

“Good, pretty good. Yeah, man. I started my [physical therapy]. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well, so I fixed that during my time off. I’m on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.”

When it comes to how the injury happened, Rey explained it was something very simple in the ring.

“I stepped in the ring, the guy that I was wrestling stood in front of me, he bailed out the ring underneath the bottom rope and I went to chase him. And when I pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a [tear].” Like, ‘That’s it? I tore my groin like that?’

Yeah, usually it happens on the simplest sh*t. But with all the stuff that I do, you would always think that it’s something crazy. No, it’s always the opposite. Always the small stuff.”

The 50-year-old Mysterio has made it clear that he will be retiring soon, but a specific date has not been publicly announced. For now, Rey is still a full-time member of the WWE roster for as long as he can be.
