Rey Mysterio has a certain age in mind for when he retires as a pro wrestler, but he does admit to feeling great these days.

The incredible career of Rey Mysterio will be celebrated this Friday night at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony when he is the headline honoree that will likely close the show. Even though Rey is still an active performer in WWE, the company decided to honor him this year since he’s been part of WWE for over 20 years and as a guy from San Diego, the Los Angeles WrestleMania isn’t that far from home.

At WrestleMania 39, Rey will be in action against his son Dominik, who turned on his father last September when he joined The Judgment Day.

After Dominik pleaded with Rey for a match at WrestleMania for several weeks, Rey finally agreed last week on Smackdown when Dominik yelled at his mother (Rey’s wife Angie) to shut up. That led to Rey punching his son for the first time and agreeing to the WrestleMania match.

In an interview with Belal Jaber for NBC’s WESH in Orlando, the 48-year-old Rey Mysterio noted that he had a certain age in mind when it comes to his wrestling retirement.

“I’ve always had this number in mind and it just kept getting higher and higher every single time just because how great my body has been feeling and overall, how since my schedule slimmed down, I feel like this energetic person that loves to go in there and perform on a once-a-week basis. Just brings out a different type of energy.”

“But, I had 5-0, 50 was the number that I said I was — I cannot and I don’t think I will go past it. But to be able to be inducted and given such a prestige honor of being part of the Hall of Fame, it’s like the ultimate in your career.”

“You always think that, hoping that one day when you retire, that offer is presented to you but here it is, you know? I’m in somewhat of the peak of my career maybe because I still feel great, I feel like I can compete on the level of other superstars but overall, it’s just a dream come true.”

Rey Mysterio will turn 49 years old in December. Incredibly, he started wrestling 34 years ago when he was a teenager.

On the March 27th Raw, Rey Mysterio was attacked by Dominik yet again during his match against Damian Priest. Legado del Fantasma made the save for Rey due to the respect they have for the legendary masked superstar.
