Rey Mysterio May Finally Turn Heel On WWE RAW

Last week on RAW, Rey Mysterio was featured twice during John Cena’s segments. First, Cena name-dropped him during his promo battle with Dominik Mysterio. Then, fans saw The Master of 619 meet up with the newly crowned Intercontinental Champion and congratulate him backstage.

Former WWE on-screen personality Jonathan Coach believes that WWE bringing up Rey Mysterio during Cena’s segments is not just a coincidence but a subtle tease that he might be the next in line to face The Never Seen 17.

Rey Mysterio Might Turn Heel After Beating John Cena For The Intercontinental Championship

On the Behind The Turnbuckle podcast, Coach predicted that Mysterio could lock horns with the IC Champion on RAW next week and even beat him for the title with a little help from his son, Dirty Dom.

So, to get the IC Title off of him, what did they throw into the promo when John Cena was in the ring with Dirty Dom? He said, “Out of respect for who? Your father, I’m going to allow you to walk away, blah, blah, blah. So you can go,” So, there was the first little easter egg. Then he beats him. They come back from the commercial break. He’s getting flowers from everybody. Who was the last person who was at the gorilla position, giving him his props? Rey Mysterio.

So Netflix came out yesterday, and they said, not WWE, Netflix said that John Cena will be wrestling this Monday at Madison Square Garden. So we know he’s going to have a match. Last week, we didn’t know that. So if we know he’s going to have a match, to me, you make it for the Intercontinental title. You somehow, and this is where your genius comes in, make it Cena against Rey Mysterio. You have Rey Mysterio go over, which the crowd would be fine with. Or you have Dom interfere to help his dad win. (From 23:15)

Former WWE writer Vince Russo chimed in on the idea and added that the IC title victory might finally provoke Rey Mysterio to turn heel in WWE.

To me, I always go with logic. And if Rey realizes he won that title because his son screwed John Cena, Rey would have an issue with his son. Okay. That to me is logical, but you know, you could turn Rey Heel. (From 25:57)
