Rey Fenix Removed From AEW Roster, Possible WWE Future

Rey Fenix AEW

Rey Fenix is a former multi-time champion in AEW and now he is no longer part of the company.

Rey Fenix has been with AEW since the company launched in 2019, but his run has ended. Fenix no longer appears on the AEW roster on the company’s website, which means he is likely gone from the organization similar to other recently released wrestlers.

It has been confirmed by PWInsider that Rey Fenix is now a free agent. That likely opens the door for a WWE debut where he would join his older brother Penta.

During his AEW career, Fenix was a former Tag Team Champion with his brother Penta, a Trios Tag Team Champion with Penta & Pac known as the Death Triangle and was also the International Champion as well. He is highly regarded for his high-flying skills in the ring and has been considered an excellent in-ring performer during his career.

The last match that Fenix had in AEW was in July 2024 on an episode of Collision.

Fenix wanted to go to WWE alongside his older brother Penta in late 2024 but AEW chose to extend his current deal due to time missed with injury and they didn’t want to use him. He was essentially “benched” while being paid to sit at home.

A frustrated Fenix openly talked about the frustrating situation saying “nobody stays in a place where they are not wanted.”

Rey Fenix’s AEW Departure Will Likely Lead To WWE Debut

There were previous that WWE was already making plans for Fenix to debut in the company although it wasn’t known when he would be free from his AEW deal.

While writing on X/Twitter, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer commented that it’s similar to AEW releasing Ricky Starks and Aleister Black.

Rey Fenix was removed from the AEW web site. The belief is he was released from the rest of his contract similar to Starks & Black and will be in WWE ASAP. We had known there were talks in that direction for a few weeks. AEW hasn’t confirmed the second part but the removal pretty much says that.

It has been reported by Fightful Select that Fenix is expected to “sign with WWE imminently, and Fanatics have already began preparing merchandise for him.” Meanwhile, the WWE creative team is coming up with ideas for him as well.

Penta has become a fixture on the Raw brand who has had to deal with the likes of Ludwig Kaiser and Pete Dunne, so he could need some backup in the form of his brother Fenix.
