Revealing Ex-WWE Champion As Mystery Man Could Be The Biggest Mistake

WWE got the fans talking by having a masked man alter the result of the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series.

However, a few hours later, a report from Fightful Select confirmed that the man was none other than former United States Champion Austin Theory.

Since July 2025, Theory has been sidelined after suffering a legitimate injury.

During his time away, his tag team partner, Grayson Waller, abandoned him to align himself with The New Day.

In August, he was even removed from the company’s roster, sparking discussions about his contract status with WWE.

Regardless, he is back in conversations, with both Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo talking on The Coach & Bro podcast about his reveal as the masked man.

Russo, especially, criticized this move, stating that he would have never done that, considering Austin Theory has never been one of the over stars.

First of all, I would have never in a million years have made that decision. The guy’s not over. Period. End of the story. He’s not over. So, you’re gonna reveal a guy that’s not over. [17:07 onwards]

Should WWE Do A Bait And Switch With Austin Theory?

Since the time rumors about Austin Theory being the masked man began floating on the internet, WWE fans have been split about their feelings.

While some believe it’s a good way to stage his return, many believe it to be a mistake, thus leaving negative comments online.

Jonathan Coachman asked Vince Russo if the company should do a bait and switch by introducing somebody else instead of Theory.

I’m really hoping it’s somebody else. But if they’re going down that road and I’m looking on the internet, and I’m seeing people sh*t on this, you bet your a** I’m changing it. Without a shadow of a doubt. [19:25 onwards]
