Another WWE return could be on the way.

William Regal was released by WWE in January 2022 before joining AEW just two months later. However, his stint with AEW was over by the end of the year, with Regal asking to be released from his contract so he could return to WWE and work with his son.

The British veteran has now been back working with WWE for a year but to date, he’s remained behind the scenes aside from announcing Charlie Dempsey’s All-Japan Pro-Wrestling adventure. However, that could be about to change.

One of the terms of Regal’s AEW departure was that he couldn’t appear on TV, at least initially, but that period is now over.

William Regal Set For WWE Return?

According to a new report from Fightful Select, there have been talks over Regal becoming an on-screen character again, and more specifically appearing in NXT. Regal was the General Manager of WWE’s third brand from July 2014 until January 2022.

It’s interesting to note that there are now General Managers on Raw and SmackDown, perhaps hinting that a figure will be installed in NXT.

William Regal initially signed with WWE in 1998, but this run was scuppered by serious addiction issues and he was released just months later. After a brief return to WCW, Regal headed back to the sports entertainment giant in 2000 and finished up his in-ring career under the NXT banner in 2013.

By this point, the former Intercontinental Champion was already working backstage and he quickly became an integral part of the company’s developmental system. Regal is credited with signing and helping bring through the likes of the Four Horsewomen, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and many more.
