Report: WWE Considering ‘Queen of the Ring’ Tournament This Year

If you’re one of the people that has been wanting a return of the King of the Ring tournament, you’re in luck-sort of.

It appears WWE is planning a Queen of the Ring tournament this year, according to WrestlingInc. The tentative plan is for the event to be a main roster show airing on Peacock/WWE Network. It’s not known when the event will take place.

Queen of the Ring is something that has been talked about among the Internet wrestling community for years, but it hasn’t happened yet. WWE last held an all-women’s show with the first-ever Evolution pay-per-view in October of 2018. That event was headlined by then-RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey defeating Nikki Bella.

WWE also had the Mae Young Classic in 2017 which was won by Kairi Sane defeating Shayna Baszler and in 2018 which was won by Toni Storm defeating Io Shirai.

Joel’s Take: I like the idea of a Queen of the Ring. Obviously, Charlotte Flair would be the favorite because her nickname is The Queen. I would also be okay with leaving her out of the tournament and recreating the Bret Hart/Jerry Lawler feud in 1993 with Charlotte attacking the winner and claiming she is the true Queen of WWE. It will be interesting to see what happens.
