Report: WWE Close to Signing NFL Legend Rob Gronkowski

TJR Wrestling

The official WWE debut of former NFL star Rob Gronkowski could be coming very soon according to a report from Ryan Satin on WWE Backstage earlier tonight. Satin, who also runs Pro Wrestling Sheet, revealed on FS1 that WWE is close to signing Gronkowski (who some fans simply refer to as “Gronk”) to a contract.

The report from Satin also noted that Gronkowski could be making an appearance on WWE Friday Night Smackdown on March 20th in New Orleans. Smackdown airs on Fox and last year, Gronk started his new career as a broadcaster on Fox.

What we don’t know right now is what kind of contract it would be, but the assumption is that 30-year-old future NFL Hall of Famer would be wrestling in WWE. Gronkowski retired after the 2018-19 NFL season after winning his third Super Bowl as a Tight End on the New England Patriots. Considering Gronkowski is 6’6″ and played at around 260 pounds in his career, he’s a natural fit for WWE especially considering he’s one of the most charismatic athletes of the last 20 years.

Gronkowski is a very close friend of current WWE superstar Mojo Rawley. Gronk has been ringside at many WWE events supporting Rawley and at WrestleMania 33 in 2017, he went into the ring to knock down Jinder Mahal and help Rawley win the WrestleMania Battle Royal.

In early February, WWE’s Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were invited by Gronk to one of his Super Bowl parties. The photo also includes Mojo Rawley and Gronk’s coach with the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick.

There hasn’t been an official announcement from WWE yet.

TJR Thoughts: Gronk has always been the kind of natural athlete that you would expect to land in WWE one day, so this news doesn’t surprise me at all.
