Report: Update On WWE’s Potential Women’s Tournament For 2017
World Wrestling Entertainment has reportedly had talks about having a women’s tournament in 2017 with women wrestlers not on WWE’s roster. The tournament would reportedly have the same style as this past summer’s Cruiserweight Classic. This was reported by PWInsider in mid-September, which we covered right here.
More news on this potential women’s tournament was revealed today as PWInsider is now reporting that there are still plans to move forward with the tournament in early 2017. They are reporting that WWE has reached out to a lot of female wrestlers as of late. Several of them were brought to the WWE Performance Center for tryouts.
PWInsider notes that the WWE is currently interested in signing Heidi Lovelace, Kimber Lee, Nixon Newell and Cheree Crowley (Evie), as well as others. There are also talks about including Deonna Purrazzo and Paul Ellering’s daughter Rachel Ellering in the tournament.
Although no one has been signed yet, the plan is for those who end up being signed to report to the WWE Performance Center during the first week of January 2017.
