Report: Austin Aries vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Is Planned For WWE NXT TakeOver On June 8

WWE’s current plan for “The King of Strong Style” Shinsuke Namakura is to have him face off against “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” Austin Aries at NXT TakeOver on June 8. This is according to a recent edition of Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

Austin Aries was placed in a tag match against former NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy during yesterday’s edition of NXT. Aries got to pick his own partner for the match and he picked Nakamura to a thunderous ovation from the crowd in attendance at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.

Toward the end of Aries and Nakamura’s tag match, Aries was reaching out to get tagged in, but Nakamura wasn’t feeling it as he ignored Aries’ request and hit his finishing move the Kinshasa for the win. Aries looked a little aggravated before shrugging it off and celebrating with Nakamura.

Mark’s reaction: NXT’s next Takeover is three weeks away and there will only be two more NXT shows to hype it up until then. We know we’ll be seeing Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Title in a Steel Cage, as well as American Alpha defending their NXT Tag Titles against The Revival in a rematch from NXT Takeover: Dallas. However, since it’s a Takeover event we should be expecting at least one more big match on the show and since Nakamura and Aries are currently not in feuds, having them face each other makes the most sense. If they take their time with this feud too, I can easily see NXT stretching it out until Takeover: Brooklyn in August.
