Real Reason WWE Booked Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul
A new report has shed more light on the backstage reasoning for booking Roman Reigns to go against rookie Logan Paul at Crown Jewel.
Roman Reigns will have a challenger of a very different kind to what he is used to at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia in November as he puts his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line against Logan Paul.
Paul is a social media megastar but a relative rookie in WWE having only competed in two matches, although he is yet to taste defeat in the squared circle.
Speaking on Sunday Night’s Main Event, Dave Meltzer explained the backstage reasoning as to why Logan Paul has been put in this high-profile bout:
“He’s a big deal in Saudi Arabia. He’s a big deal to the Saudi Arabian prince and that’s the whole thing of these shows.”
“Nothing to do with [selling tickets]. Tickets in Saudi Arabia mean nothing. It’s not even part of the game. Of course, TV numbers whatever. If he draws younger viewers, that’s good but it’s not a play for TV ratings. It is a play because the prince wants celebrity fights in Saudi Arabia to build the name in the media of Saudi Arabia and Logan Paul will get more of the type of press that Saudi Arabia is looking for than Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins.”
“That’s what Saudi Arabia is there for. Saudi Arabia is for matches that the prince wants that will get press attention around the world for Saudi Arabia so this is a great match for that.”
