Reason Vince McMahon Announced Retirement Yesterday Revealed

Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon shockingly announced his retirement from WWE yesterday and the timing of his announcement was perfect for the stock market.

Vince McMahon dropped the bombshell announcement that he was retiring from all executive duties in WWE, effective immediately. McMahon confirm the news in a tweet at 16:05 EST, just minutes after the American stock market closed.

Many have speculated that this is the reason for the timing of McMahon’s announcement. By officially retiring after the closure of the stock market, it prevented any stock trades being made over the weekend.

Dutch Mantell, who worked for WWE in the past as a manager, commented on the matter on the latest edition of Sportskeeda’s Smack Talk podcast.

“Now, as I read that today, Vince McMahon retired, and I didn’t ever think I would ever hear those words. I think he would have gone until he died.

“The stock market closed at 4’Oclock; he announced his retirement at 4:05. That means no trades can be made this weekend, I guess. I don’t know it.

“The stock is really not as bad as a lot of people thought it would be because it’s back up. It went to the high, in the mid-60s, in the mid-50s, which is not too bad.”

Mantell – then known as Zeb Colter – last appeared for WWE in December 2015, where his partnership with Alberto Del Rio ended. Before then, ‘Dirty’ Dutch Mantell had also managed the likes of Jack Swagger, The Blu Brothers, and Justin Bradshaw, the future JBL.

Vince McMahon will be replaced by Stephanie McMahon as Chairwoman, with she and Nick Khan also being appointed co-CEOs. It is currently unknown who will be the new Head of Creative, although Kevin Dunn and Bruce Prichard were reportedly the points of contact for last night’s SmackDown.
