Real Reason Motor City Machine Guns Picked WWE Over AEW
The Motor City Machine Guns have made a splash since joining WWE and now it seems the reason why they picked their new home over AEW has been revealed.
On the October 11th episode of Smackdown, a video aired with the letters “MCMG” appearing on screen all but confirming the arrival of the Motor City Machine Guns Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley.
Since then, MCMG has hit the ground running as Sabin and Shelley have already captured the WWE Tag Team Championship from The Bloodline.
The Motor City Machine Guns spent most of their careers together in TNA but when their time in that company ended both WWE and AEW were looking to sign the pair but it seems Tony Khan didn’t do enough to make it happen.
Motor City Machine Guns Held Talks With AEW & WWE
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave some insight into why he thinks Sabin and Shelley chose WWE over AEW:
WWE is the one that made the better offer. They went to the better offer. Whether it’s more money or whether it’s a better storyline that they were suggested, I don’t know. I know that they were interested in both sides, talked to both sides. I didn’t get the impression that AEW, when Tony has people he really wants, he often gets them because he makes an offer, Danny Garcia is just an example, he makes an offer big enough to where he gets him.
That doesn’t always work. He didn’t get Andrade, didn’t get Jade again. But Sabin and Shelly, my impression of Sabin and Shelly was that they were looking to get a good job, a good, well-paying job in the wrestling business and just go somewhere and get good exposure.
I don’t think that there was a necessarily we’re going to WWE and nothing else. I don’t think so, because I’d heard about talks with both sides. Most of the time I heard that it was more likely WWE, and it ended up being WWE.
