Reason Behind Jon Moxley’s AEW Absence Revealed

Jon Moxley’s AEW absence has been explained.

Since joining AEW in 2019 Jon Moxley has been a permanent fixture on television aside from a spell away from the ring at the end of 2021.

Over the last almost five years Moxley has become the man AEW turns to in times of trouble, stepping up when injury and controversy have struck the roster.

However, the former World Champion has been missing in recent weeks without explanation. Moxley was most recently in action at Revolution when he teamed with Claudio Castagnoli to defeat FTR. The victory put the pair in line for a World Tag Team Title match, but despite this, they are missing from the tournament to crown new champions.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Moxley’s time off had been planned well in advance, and he and Castagnoli were never going to be available for the tournament. Moxley will return to the ring shortly with bookings in Mexico and then Japan.

With regard to the Mexican date, this was planned “well over a month ago” ruling him out of the tournament.

“No Reason” Jon Moxley Missing From AEW Tournament

The news comes after Dave Meltzer reported there was “no reason” the pair couldn’t feature in the tournament, even if that meant losing early on.

Meanwhile, the tournament could set the stage for a huge AEW Tag Team Title rematch. Owing to the way the tournament bracket is laid out, FTR and the Young Bucks could meet in the finals.

The two teams last met at All In with FTR emerging with the win.
