Real Reason Gunther Vs Sami Zayn Won’t Be On WWE Bad Blood

Gunther and Sami Zayn on Raw

Sami Zayn is finally getting his shot at Gunther and the World Heavyweight Title.

After failing to reclaim the Intercontinental Title he lost to Bron Breakker at SummerSlam, Sami Zayn set his sights on a bigger prize.

In the days after Bash In Berlin, CM Punk clear he wanted a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, but that dream, was at least for now, taken away by Drew McIntyre. As a result, the pair will meet at Bad Blood inside Hell In A Cell.

This left the door open for Zayn to step forward and stake his claim for a World Title match. However, Gunther was less than enthusiastic about the challenge, rejecting Zayn’s pleas. Eventually, Zayn reminded the dominant champion that he is the only man to beat him on the main roster. That famous victory came at WrestleMania 40 where Zayn beat Gunther for the Intercontinental Title.

After yet more goading, the match was confirmed for the October 10th episode of Raw, to the surprise of many fans given that Bad Blood is just around the corner.

Why Isn’t Gunther vs. Sami Zayn On WWE Bad Blood?

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that WWE simply didn’t think Bad Blood needed another match. Instead, the bout was placed on the following episode of Raw in order to give a boost to the red brand.

The Gunther vs. Sami Zayn world title match will be on the 10/7 Raw show rather than here.

When we asked why, we were told that this show didn’t need that match so they could use it to boost Raw. And based on ticket sales and secondary market demand, that would be correct. They don’t need that match on this show.

With Gunther vs. Sami Zayn taking place on Raw, it means neither men’s World Title will be defended at Bad Blood with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in tag team action alongside Roman Reigns.

However, Rhodes has teased that fans will find out the identity of his next challenger at the event.
