The Reason Behind CM Punk’s Undeniable WWE Win Revealed

CM Punk

CM Punk picked up a decisive win at Bash In Berlin but now WWE’s reasons have come to light for Punk’s victory in that bout.

At Bash In Berlin, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre were tethered together in a vicious strap match. The two rivals punished each other in a gruelling contest where the winner could only be determined by which man touched the four corner turnbuckles in succession first.

Despite that rule, Drew McIntyre tapped out in the match after being locked in the sharpshooter but that only prolonged the Scottish star’s pain. Eventually CM Punk dropped his opponent with several Go 2 Sleeps to make his way around the corners to win the match decisively.

WWE Wanted Major Win For CM Punk

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why WWE had Punk win in such a well-protected fashion and it all came down to his lack of big wins since rejoining the company:

The mentality was that Punk had not had a big win, he had been in the company since November and they just felt that he needed a massive win because he’s a massive star. They felt that Drew can handle it and Drew’s gonna get his heat back two days later.

CM Punk attempted to use his win to catapult himself into the World Heavyweight Title picture on Raw. However, Drew McIntyre well and truly got his heat back as he viciously attacked Punk and despite his clear loss, it looks like McIntyre will be getting another crack at Punk in the very near future.
