Fans have been yearning to find out the story behind the Blonde B*tch project, and former WWE Superstar Stevie Richards fills the gap.

Back in 1999, during the WWE’s much-celebrated Attitude Era, controversies and scandals were not uncommon. One such controversy was around WWE superstar Sable, who was suing the company at the time after filing a lawsuit of $110 million for sexual harassment and an unsafe work environment against the Stamford-based promotion.

The lawsuit later helped build more boundaries around extreme content that tried to sexualise women for ratings, which was a trend in the company at the time.

Around this time, Steven Richards and The Blue Meanie had begun a parody tag team on ECW called the Blue World Order (BWO, a parody of the actual faction New World Order) and were all set to do a parody of the popular movie “The Blair Witch Project” with Sable at the forefront, renaming it “The Blonde B*tch Project”.

Steven Richards Opens Up About WWE’s Shelved Blonde B*tch Project Idea.

Speaking to James Romero on The Steven Richards Show, the former Hardcore Champion told the tumultuous tale from 26 years ago, where nothing was as it is now in WWE. He said that the parody idea didn’t get the go-ahead because an out-of-touch Vince McMahon who hadn’t seen the original movie the parody was supposed to be based on, scrapped the idea.

So the Blonde Bitch Project was basically a rib, a parody on Sable.

We were trying to do the Blonde Bitch Project according to a parody of the Blair Witch Project, which was super popular. Here was the issue.

Besides the lawsuit, remember the story about Scott Hall and Vince McMahon and Scarface, and he had never seen Scarface? He had no idea what a Blair Witch Project was. He doesn’t watch movies. He doesn’t watch TV.

So number one, Vince didn’t get it, and number two, the lawyers were called up and said, “you need to cease and desist after that first one” (a different parody).

If Vince was into it and Vince was, you know how Vince can be, if Vince was into it and he thought it was great and funny and the best thing ever, he wouldn’t care how much you were suing him or how much he would have fun with it. But he didn’t get it, and if Vince doesn’t get it, it’s eventually going to be squashed anyway. (0:23 onwards)
