Real Story Behind Backstage Confrontation Between R-Truth & Ex-WWE Champion

Ron Killings R-Truth WWE

A former WWE superstar and R-Truth got into an altercation backstage, and it led to laughter from Vince McMahon.

For more than a decade, the letters NXT have represented a third brand of WWE after Raw and SmackDown. While it’s not technically a developmental show for WWE, it does feature many wrestlers with only a year or two of television experience. Generally speaking, the wrestlers on Raw and SmackDown are more experienced.

When the NXT letters first appeared in WWE, they were used for an hour-long show that saw “rookies” teaming up with WWE superstars.

In the first season of NXT, names like Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett went on to have the most success, but several others had long runs in WWE, like Heath Slater, Ryan Reaves (Ryback), and David Otunga.

David Otunga was mentored by R-Truth in season one of NXT. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Otunga told the story about how he was instructed to attack his mentor, Truth, even though Truth didn’t know about it. The idea was just done that way to get a laugh out of the old boss, Vince McMahon.

“They didn’t tell R-Truth I was going to do it. When I shoved him, he thought it was real. We were actually tussling until Vince [McMahon] stepped in, laughing. That’s how unpredictable NXT really was.”

R-Truth Addresses His Current WWE Role

It was earlier this summer that Truth’s WWE contract was set to expire, and the company didn’t plan to give him an extension, so Truth was going to be released after two long runs in WWE over the last 20+ years.

Truth ended up coming back to WWE without much of a break and all seemed well again.

While there was hope that a more serious Ron Killings character would replace the comedic Truth, R-Truth has since claimed that the story went as it was supposed to.

It went where it was supposed to. Ron Killings created R-Truth. Those hundreds of millions of fans who spoke and up-roared. They wanted R-Truth back. Ron Killings was the rebellious one who spoke up for R-Truth.

Ron Killings has been around for years, but people had never come together in lockstep like that. They did that for R-Truth. You feel me? I wanted Ron Killings to go where he was supposed to go. He made a statement; he had eyes on him. When John Cena came back, R-Truth came back. Ron Killings was the cavalry.
